i also have some family that here in the Netherlands was recruited to fight on the eastern front I've only met one of em who reached the age of 96 the father of my uncle fought in 1942 for our people and died in 1943.

My grandfather fought in the Wehrmacht in WW2. He was Artillery and was in Poland, France, Russia, North Africa and the Baltics. He was taken POW by the Americans from a hopital. was shot in the knee and the chest. On top of this, his step mother was Jewish and his father was sent to work at a factory when he refused to divorce her. His sister was killed in the Dresden bombings. He came to Canada after the war and had 3 kids. RIP

I believe the Australians that fought Rommel's forces at Tobruk had the upmost respect for the German soldiers and of course Rommel also respected captured Allied soldiers and they were treated appropriately . I believe The Australian army tactics etc are still today based on that of The German armies tactics.

My Nan always told me that the average Germans were good people. My grandfather was treated very much better by the Germans than he was by the Italians . He spent his first two years as a POW 1941 and 1942 in an Italian Camp and was treated appallingly and did not have a shower in those first two years ( as I said my father's side is Italian) . He was treated much better in the German POW camp when he was transferred to Germany in 1943. Although they did not have much food at the end neither did the German People

Three of my grand Grandfathers fell in the USSR. One of them in Stalingrad. The fourth however didn´t fall. He was captuared and held as an POW in Czechoslovakia. But he luckily spock the language. He wrote a release letter and signed it himself. They didn´t thought he could speek the language and let him go. At least thats what my granmother told us and my mom. He survived. He had luck

My granfather fought in Russia, Africa and Greece. He had the worst times of his life in Russia, the italian company of shoes were making shoes from carton and when they went to Russia they froze. My grandfather was captured by the english in el alamein and letted go in 1945

My Grandpa was in France by Organisation Todt ,submarine bunker,his young brother was 16 and fight in 1945 in Berlin,the oldest brother died in Russia near Moscow

I had family on both sides of it. One great grandpa arrived in France in late June ‘44, and another was in the SS Viking Division and died in late ‘44 trying to break the siege of Budapest.

My Opa raised me and my brother and sister. He was loving and strong we always had food and clothes . The rain never met our heads . He was a Waffen SS, Major in that war. I am thankful to God , he survived that war that was caused BY ANTAGONISTS.
He kept loaded guns in various places around the house and he told us that it was for the bastards who might want to take him

I'm from the UK and a friend of mine who's great grandfather fought in the war, said the Germans were brave men who fought with honour. They were the same as the British, Americans and other Europeans and followed the correct conduct of war.
